Jesus in the Manger Tri-Fold Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

I'm really excited about the card I'm sharing with you today.  I love making Christmas cards depicting the birth of Jesus.  I certainly have made many different designs over the years.  But I must say that this one is my very favorite at this point.  The card base is a very simple tri-fold card and very easy to cut, score, and fold.  The next step does involve a lot of cutting panels to size and die cutting, and some coloring before the assembly step begins.  Assembly is the most time-consuming part, but I think it is well worth it.  I ended up making six of this card.  I just turned on my Christmas music and enjoyed every moment of the time spent!

Here are a couple of views of the fully opened card.  The scroll was stamped on white card stock, colored, and then fussy cut.

This is a good view of the tri-fold.  I really enjoy making cards using this fold because there is a larger area to decorate and express my idea.

Here's a good tip:  Be sure to stamp the sentiments on the panels before you attach them to the card base.  These sentiments are so beautiful and really  express the real and perfect meaning of Christmas.

Stamp Baby Jesus on white card stock, color, and fussy cut.  The star is die cut from silver glitter paper.

This sentiment really touches my heart.

Another tip, once you have glued the legs to the manger, diagonally cut the ends so that they will be even with the card (or they look like the manager is sitting on the ground).

Now on to the supply lists!

Card Stock
White Card Base: 1 ¼” x 12”; score at 3 ½”, and 7 ½”
DP Panels (wood-look paper): 4 ½” x 4 ¼” cut one; 4” x 4 ¼” cut two
Multi-Stripe Blue/Brown Panel: 3 ½” x 4 ¼” cut one
Manger 1 ¼” x 6 ¾” brown card stock; score at 2 ½”, 3 ¼”, 5 ¾”, and 1/8”
Manger Legs 3/16” x 1 ½” cut two; diagonal cut on each end in opposite
directions (as if they were sitting on a floor)
Center Cross Piece in Manger ¼” x 3” brown card stock; score at ¼” and
     2 ¾”
Extra white card stock and a scrap of silver glitter paper.

G45 Slimeline Christmas Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

I admit I have been pretty slow about jumping on the band wagon for the new slimline style of card.  But here I am, finally, with my first slimline card.  Here is what my idea turned out to be.

I chose to make it with G45 Christmas papers.  So many times, I have had a hesitancy of using these papers because they are just too pretty and I might not be able to get anymore like them.  Anybody else have that problem with pretty papers???

My card base is a 7 x 8 1/2” piece of a green cardstock, scored at 3 1/2” and folded in half.  I layered it with a 3 ¼ x 8” panel of G45 DP.

To make the layered circles, I first used the Stampin’ Up 2” punch on another of the G45 DP papers, then the Stampin’ Up Starburst punch on green card stock, and the bottom red layer was cut out using the Tim Holtz Stitched Circles dies.  The top and bottom circle panels were adhered to the card base, but I used 3D tape for the middle panel.

The Merry Christmas sentiment is from the Lawn Fawn “Ready, Set, Snow” stamp set and coordinating dies.  I added little green gemstones on the sentiment label and each of the bows for a touch of glitz.

For a bit more decoration, I glued a pretty little red bow on each of the 3 circle panels (made with a die from Tim Holtz Funky Festive die set).

I think it turned out very colorful and cheerful, so I’m happy.

Blessings,

Annie

Nativity Ornament Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hello again,

Last Saturday I finished up my cards, got them all signed, addressed, stamped, and dropped into the mail box. What a good feeling!  This is the last card I made.  I love to always make at least a few focusing on the nativity.  The die I used for this card is one that I purchased during the summer and have been saving for December.  It is called "Ornament, Nativity" by Cottage Cutz.

The navy blue base is the normal size, 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.  The white panel is 4 x 5 1/4 inches embossed with "Boughs and Berries" embossing folder from Stampin' Up.  The sentiment stamp is an old one but one of my favorites.  It is called "The Nativity Cast" by Stampendous.  A tiny little gold jewel is glued in the center of the star.  That single bit of gold really focuses one's attention to the star shining over baby Jesus.

May you experience all the blessings of Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all,
Annie

Christmas Carol Singers Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hello friends,

I don't know about you, but I am way behind on making my Christmas cards.  However, finally I have another one to share with you.  This is another one that is different from my regular Christmas card style but it still relates to the most wonderful night when Jesus was born.  I hope you like it.

I used a set of stamps and dies from Simon Says Stamp called Carol Singers.  The white background die cut is from Papertrey Ink called Mix & Match Plaid Die.  Copic markers were used for coloring.  For a final touch I wrapped red and white twine in and out around the white  die cut.  Wishing you happy stamping.

Blessings,
Annie

Christmas Collage Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hello and happy December!

Don't you just love it when it is time to make Christmas cards.  I was searching through my supply of Christmas stamps looking for something a little different and something that I hadn't used for a long time.  What I found is this stamp set from Hero Arts called
Holiday Poste de Luxe Christmas Postoid.  Aha!  I have always loved to do collage cards and haven't done that technique in a while, this set is the one I chose for this card.  Although Hero Arts has retired it, you can still find it at Ebay.  Here's a picture of the finished card.

The card base is actually a pale green, although the picture shows a yellow tinge to it.  I stamped several of the elements individually and then trimmed them to size.  Some of the elements were just randomly stamped on the card base and also on one square piece of card stock which I first stamped with a shadow stamp.  The Celebrate the Season postoid was stamped, trimmed with postage stamp scissors, and then layered onto a piece of green card stock.  I also used the shadow stamp on the card base four or five times.  It's easy to get carried away when doing collage and just so much fun!  The final touch was adding a gold star brad at the top of one of the Christmas trees.  Here's a look at this great stamp set.

Thank you and blessings,
Annie

Go Tell It on the Mountain . . .

Hello fellow card makers!

I really like to make window cards.  Sometimes I wish I could put all the ideas in my head into one design.  I think that that will never happen, however.  It would have to be a huge card.  That thought makes me chuckle!  Well, I finally decided on the design, the paper, and all the dies that I would use.  Wow!  I used a bunch of dies for this one, but it was fun.  Here is my finished card.

Tangled Tinsel

Hello on this sunny afternoon!

It has been warm enough for a couple of days to melt the snow and today it almost looks like spring.  I'm really surprised to see flowers still blooming out in the flower beds.  I'm still working on my Christmas cards for this year.  Just finished up this cute little card using a stamp that I've had for ages.  I hope it brings a smile to your face.

The stamp is by Stampendous called Delightful Christmas UM005.  The sentiment is Tinsel in a Tangle #IB-JS-161 by Unity Stamp Co.  I used a Christmas tree die from the set by Cottage Cutz called Rustic Sign & Trees CC4x6-039.  PrismaColor pencils for all the coloring.  What fun making this card and now three more of them to do.

May your day be blessed,
Annie

The Traveling Wise Men

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Greetings,

Even though the three Magi didn't find Jesus until after He had grown to several years old, many Christmas songs depicted them to have arrived at the manger where He was born.  So I find it really hard to get that picture out of my mind.  How about you?  LOL  However, the Magi (who really weren't kings) did find the house where Joseph, Mary, and Jesus were living in Bethlehem.  I guess that is why I like this die so much -- it shows them on their way to Bethlehem, following the beautiful star that had appeared in the sky on the night of the birth of Jesus.  What a glorious night that was!  What a joy to make this card.

White Card Base 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches
Star Decorative Paper 5 3/5 x 4 1/8 inches
Teal Strip 5 3/8 x 3/4 inches
White Sparkle Paper

Tim Holtz Wise Men Die #663127 (which includes the star die)
Stampin' Up Label Punches

I hope you like it and want to make one.

Peace Love Joy at Christmas

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hi to all,

This afternoon I'm sharing the second Christmas card from one of my classes.  Another quick and easy one that features a couple of dies that I really like -- the Sizzix Swirling Stars and Penny Black Peace, Love, Joy.  I also used a scalloped frame from the Die-namics My Favorite Things.  I see all three of these die sets as being really versatile, and not for Christmas only.  See what you think!

Card Base 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches
Red Panel 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches
White panel 5 1/4 x 4 inches

Red Frame 2 5/8 inch square
White Panel 2 1/4 inch square

Finished off with a sparkling jewel in the middle of the large star.

I wish you all a peaceful, joyful Christmas with lots of love!

Blessings,
Annie

Worship the King

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hi there fellow card makers,

I haven't posted anything for a while because I've been so busy preparing for two card making classes.  Now that they are over with, I can share some of what we have been making.  The stamp I used on this Christmas card is one of my very favorite Christmas stamps.  Even though it is of the wise men seeking Jesus thousands of years ago, it reminds me of how we are still seeking Him today.  I am so very thankful that God called me and then I found Jesus and He lives in my heart.  Every Christmas is a joyful Christmas because of Him!

Measurements and directions are below the picture.

1.  Red card base (8 1/2 x 5 1/2) folded.

2. Adhere a black panel 5 1/4 x 4 1/8 inches onto the card front.

3.  Emboss a 5 1/4 x 4 inch panel using the Cuttlebug Kitchen Weave embossing folder.

4.  Cut a 5 inch piece of ribbon and a 4 inch piece of ribbon.  Tape the ends of the 5 inch ribbon to the back of the embossed panel, and adhere it to the black panel.

5.  Stamp the wise men (Inkadinkado #99624-DD) on the upper half of a 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 inch white panel that has been die cut with smallest frame of the Penny Black Elegant Stitching Frame set.

6.  Stamp the "Worship the King" sentiment on the lower left side, and then layer it to 3 5/8 x 2 3/8 inch red panel

7.  Using 3-D tape, mount this assembly over the ribbon toward the lower left side of the card.

8.  Taking the 4 inch piece of ribbon, slide it under the vertical piece of ribbon at the top of this small panel and then tie one knot.  Trim ends of ribbon.  You can use a bit of glue or a glue dot below the knot to hold the ribbon in place.

9.  Add 3 red jewels to the right side of the mounted panel.

10.  Stamp the inside sentiment on a 5 1/4 x 4 inch white panel and adhere inside of the card.

Happy stamping and may God bless you,Annie

Christmas Nativity Bridge Card

Hi there, card makers,

Just finished with my card class for today.  I've already shared two of the cards we made.  Today I am sharing the third card.  The Bridge Card fold was one I just learned this past fall.  I thought it would make a wonderful fold to showcase my nativity die.  Also, I love the way that the decorative paper on the panels is glued in order keeping the pattern on the paper flowing in its design.  Making some more of these cards for my Christmas mailings is next on my agenda.

BRIDGE CARD DIRECTIONS

Card Base:
            1.         With the 8” x 4 ½” piece, score at 1¼”, 2½”, 5½” & 6¾”.  Fold using your bone folder to burnish the score lines.

             2.         Cut a 4” x 7¼” piece of DP.  As up cut the piece, keep the strips in order) at 1⅛”, 1⅛”,  2¾”, 1⅛” & 1⅛”.  I numbered them on the back starting with the left piece as number one.
Adhere the DP pieces onto each of the 5 panels of your card from left to right.

 Back Side of Card:
            3.         With the cream CS panel (2 ½” x 3 1/2”), use a corner rounder on all corners.  Using
the Distress Ink pad and a sponge distress the edges of the cream CS panel.  Adhere to the backside
of the center section of the card.  This is for signing and dating or another sentiment.

Sentiments:
            4.         With black ink, stamp the two sentiments onto cream CS.  Closely trim the extra CS
from the sentiments.  Make sure that it will fit on the Bridge piece.

             5.         On the larger sentiment piece, us a corner rounder.  On the small piece, round the
corners with  scissors.

            6.         Distress the edges of both pieces using the Walnut Stain Distress Ink pad and sponge.
Lightly distress the rest of the paper to match the DP background.

            7.         Adhere the small sentiment to the top of the center panel of the card.

Bridge:
            8.         For the Bridge, layer the DP strip (1½” x 5½”) onto the green CS strip (1⅜” x 5⅜”).

             9.         Place a strong adhesive on the back of this front panel, no more than 1” from each
end.  Adhere it to the base card, lining up the bottom corners.

            10.       Adhere the larger sentiment to the front of the Bridge piece.

 Die Cut Nativity:
            11.       With the nativity die cut, add glue to just along the front bottom of it.  Slide it between the bridge and the two side panels.

That's it for today.  The card is fairly quick and simple, but looks lovely.

Blessings,
Annie

Remember These - Glass Slide Mailers?

Class time is coming around next week so I'm busy getting card ideas and kits together.  A while back I found a couple of packages of glass slide mailer folders that I had stashed away.  What a surprise - had forgotten that I even had them.  I used to do a lot of altered art but had really gotten away from it.  So I thought why not put these to use in a card - but what do I do, how do I go about it!  I didn't find much of anything to give me inspiration, actually nothing at all, so this is a totally "winging it" card.  And using Graphic 45 paper is always awesome!

The red base card opens so you can add a Christmas sentiment inside.  Hope you like it.

Blessings,
Annie

Glass Slide Mailer Card

1.  Fold the card base and round the corners; lay aside.

2.  Emboss the green card stock with Elegant Dots; attach to card base; lay aside.

3.  Slide mailer – color all edges with the black marker.  On the inside color the center of the slider so that the cardboard won’t show after you attach the decorative paper; set aside.

4.  From the green dots paper, cut one panel to fit inside the glass slide pocket; glue or tape in place.

5.  With the red plaid paper, cut three panels – 1 ½ x 3 ¾ inches.

6.  With one of the red plaid paper panels, cut out the center of it using the smallest die from the A2 Matting Basics A.  Attach this panel over the glass slide pocket.

7.  Attach the other two panels to front and on the left inside the slide mailer.  You may need to trim a bit.

 8.  Cut out three ephemera from the G45 paper.  Tape or glue one to the front, one to the left inside, and mount one in the pocket on the right.

9.  Using Glossy Essentials to attach the slide mailer to the center of the embossed paper and the red Dew Drops to each of the four corners of the embossed panel.

 Supplies:
Black permanent ink marker (slanted tip)
One rubber glove (for use with the black marker)
Mounting Tape
Pencil
Scissors
Glue bottle or pen
Glossy Accents
Double-stick tape or tape runner
Corner rounder punch

The Reason for Christmas - Worship the King

Brrrr, it's cold outside!  What's a better time to stay cozy and warm inside and carry on with card making. I especially love making nativity Christmas cards and this die from Die-Namites is just perfect because I wanted only Baby Jesus, Joseph, and Mary in the scene.  The palm trees are so cool.  Looking at them brings back memories of when I visited Israel a few years ago.  They grow in many areas there.
The front of the card is a white panel embossed with the Cuttlebug Three Kings folder.  I like the idea of having the Wisemen on the front of the card because they are searching for the Savior.  Open the card and surprise - there He is!  LOL!  Are you  getting the idea that I like to tell a story with some of my cards.  Well, after all, I'm our church librarian - reading is wonderful and helps the mind be creative and imaginative!   Ok, back to the card.  Here's a picture of the card front.  The embossing doesn't show up very good in the pic, and it's really much prettier in person.
Directions
1.  Outside card base – fold in half
2.  Decorative paper panel – fold in half and put DS tape to only the sides of the decorative panel.  Adhere the sides to the inside of the card base, trying to get the center folds to fit as closely as possible.  Be sure to leave the center loose.  Lay it aside.
3.  Inside card base – score at 3½,  5½, and 7½ - Fold the card base so that you have one mountain fold, two valley folds.
4.  Die cut in the center of the panel.
5.  Score manger scene from the right side of the star and between the manger and Mary.
6.  Adhere the bottom only of the manger scene behind the die cut frame.
7.  Put DS tape all around both end panels of the inside card base.
8.  Adhere to the outside card base.
9.  Stamp the inside sentiment on a white panel, round the corners, and adhere to the right inside panel of the card.
10.  Front of card – round corners of the white embossed panel and the light teal panel.
11.  Layer them and then adhere them to the card front.
12. Use finger dauber to add a bit of ink to hi-light the embossed image.
13.  Round the corners of the small white piece and the dark teal piece. Stamp sentiment onto the white, layer it onto teal, and then mount it to the left bottom of the card.
Supplies
Card Base 11 x 4¼  (2 pieces) teal card stock
Light teal panel 5¼ x4
White front panel 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 (emboss on this one)
Outside sentiment panel:  teal 2 x 7/8 and white 1 7/8 x ¾
Inside sentiment panel 2¾ x 1¾
Decorative Paper background panel 5¼ x 4¼
Cuttlebug Embossing folder - Three King
Die-namites die - Nativity Scene
Spellbinders Nestabilities - Labels One

Holiday Cards Day 1

Hi stamping friends,

Another fun day in the studio busily creating the cards that were in Monday's class on the 11th.  The instructors for that day were Kristina Werner, Jennifer McGuire, Joy Taylor, and Tami Hartley.  These gals have done a wonderful job - not only in their designs, but also by providing supply lists, easy-to-follow directions, and lots of tips.  And on top of that there are videos and downloadable PDF files if you want to store the instructions on your computer.

So, enough chit chat, take a look at these fun designs.

This was a fun card to do.  It was embossed on top and bottom, leaving a flat surface in between to stamp the sentiment on.  By the side of each strip of washi tape, you can see the stitching using a white pen.  Inside there is a gift card pocket made of vellum and decorated with washi tape.

A fun and easy card to make.  It is a Z fold card.  When you pull out the left panel, you can see that the whole card is stamped with a holiday greetings stamp.  Also, a nice surprise here, the banner stretches all the way from the right side of the card to the left, the left end being covered by the Christmas tree.  It makes me smile!

Red and white is always striking to me.  Since I didn't have the falling snowflake template that the design called for, I had to be creative and find a substitute.  I used a small hand punch and my eyelet tool to punch the holes.  Sometimes, you just have to go with what you've got.  The other thing I like about this card is that the label is made with three shades of red.  Very pretty!  I'm looking forward to using this technique with other colors.

Just love this card.  It is so soft and delicate looking.  I masked triangles and then alternately sponged three shades of blue ink.  Distress stain was lightly washed over the card, followed by stamping with white ink using a speckled spot stamp.  The layered snowflake was sprayed with glimmer mist.  I'm a happy stamper to have learned how to use these products together.

Until next time,
Annie

Online Holiday Card Class - Day 2

Having great fun making cards with teachers Jennifer McGuire, Laura Bassen, Kristina Werner, and Debbie Hughes today.  There were six card today, but I have finished only four so far.  Maybe you can get a few ideas for your own Christmas cards.

This is a layered die cut inlay card and a brand new technique to me.  It is perfectly smooth on the card front.

This card features an acetate window frame.  The window frame opens separately from the card and has embossed snowflakes adhered front and back of the acetate.  A really cool  idea.

Here, you see the use of negative and positive die cuts of snowflakes.  The second snow hill is mounted and sits up above the snowflake behind it.  The snowflakes are covered with Vintage Glass Glitter.  It's really a pretty card but this picture doesn't do it justice.

Plain and simple, yet quite striking in red and white, featuring a white wood grain label, saddle stitch ribbon, and die cut poinsettia.

Now I need to get Monday's class cards made and then get ready for the Friday class.  We have classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week, too.  Oh, the joy of card making!

Blessings,
Annie

A Christmas Card Making Party!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of hosting a Christmas card making party at my home for some of my church family gals.  Amid laughter, eating, talking, laughter, eating (get the picture?), we did manage to make a few cards.  What a fun memory-making time we had!  I wish I had a recording to play for you – you’d have to join the laughter just from listening to it.  Anyway . . . here are the 3 card designs we made.  I did the embossing and die cutting ahead of time with my Cuttlebug.  I really like the new Spellbinder Christmas dies.  How did we ever get along without this invention???

While shopping for cardstock, I made a great find in the Christmas Stories double sided paper line – Christmas Bingo cards – 12 to a sheet.  Immediately I thought this would make a great ice-breaker game for my party.  I could hardly wait until I got home so I could get started.  After cutting out the Bingo cards I glued them onto a rectangle of heavy weight Christmas paper and added a small embellishment at the top.  Next I went to my stash and pulled out some kids’ white letter tiles, glued a red CS square inside, used stickers to make the Bingo numbers, then covered the inside with Diamond Glaze by Judi-kins, giving them a nice clear, glossy finish.  Next, in that same “stash” I had a white box (like a pencil box or a cigar box) that I had purchased about 6 years ago and now, finally, found something to do with it, so out it came to be decorated which was accomplished by using some wonderful, beautiful Graphic 45 Christmas paper from the "Christmas Past Collection."  The finishing touch to the box was adding the name of the game on the lid using brown wooden letters and a button in each corner.  And finally I rounded up a bunch of small colored buttons (with lots of red and green) and put them in a clear plastic container to use as the game pieces.  Oh, the name of the game you ask, “Button Bingo” of course.  Oh, well, maybe not the greatest choice, but it was all I could spell with the number of wooded letters I had on hand. J  Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of how it turned out.  We had lots of fun with it – too bad we only had time for one game.

In case I don’t have time to post again before Thanksgiving, please know that I’m thankful for each one of you and pray that our Heavenly Father abundantly blesses your family gatherings on Thanksgiving Day.
