BUTTERFLY ANGLE POPUP CARD

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hello Stampers!

Today I'm sharing a sweet little butterfly angle popup card.  This design came to me by way of YouTube at Dawn's Stamping Thoughts.  You can see her card here.  I was really intrigued by this fold and was pleasantly surprised to find it easy to make.  I just happened to have in my paper stock some butterfly designed paper from way back.  I had just been waiting for the right card style to come along . . . and this was it!  I love this paper.

The butterfly was made with two coordinating dies, layered one on top of the other.  Using two shades of pink really makes the butterfly pop.  I added a little burlap bow to the sentiment that matches the color of the card base.

Here is the inside of the card where you can see the angle popup fold.  When the card is opened, the butterflies pop up.  The center fold is a valley fold which allows the card to close with the butterflies tucked inside.

Looking down on the card, this view shows you how the angle fold works.  I think it is a card you will enjoy making.  Don't be put off by the number of instructions.  I broke them down into sections for you so they would be easy to follow.

Measurements
Card Base 5 ½” x 8 ½”; score at 4 ¼”
Designer Paper – Cut two at 4” x 5 ¼ “
Cream Card Stock (for inside) 4” x 5 ¼”
Template 3” x 4” (any color)

Supplies
Tim Holtz Detailed Butterflies #661182
Penny Black Elegant Stitching Dies #51-440
Rubbernecker Stamps Fluttering By #627-03
Paper Studio Burlap Bows #944827

To Make the Template
1) Place the small piece of card stock in a portrait position. From the left, measure 2 ¾” and make a dot.
2) Rotate the card stock to the right, measure 3 ½” and make a dot.
3) Cut from dot to dot.
4) Print the measurements on the appropriate end: 2 ¾” on the short side and
3 ½” on the long side.  Do this on both sides of the template.

To Make the Card Base
1) Fold the fold base, then turn so that the fold is at the top. Place the template in the top left corner with the 3 1/2" side next to the fold and make a light pencil line.
2) Turn the card over, with the fold still at the top. Place the template in the top right corner and make a light pencil line.
3) Score on the two pencil lines using a ruler and a stylus. The two pencil lines are Mountain Folds; the center of the card is a Valley Fold.  Make sure that all corners meet before you burnish all creases.  It might be a bit of a struggle depending on the thickness of the card stock that you are using.

To Make the Decorative Panels
1) Place the template on the upper left corner of one panel with the 2 ¾” side at the top of the panel and draw a light pencil line.
2) Turn the template over and place the template on the upper right corner of the second panel and draw a light pencil line.
3) Cut off the corners.
4) Adhere the panels in place, matching the corners of the card base.

To Make the Small Decorative Panels
1) Take the two small triangle pieces and cut off ½” of each one at the top side.
2) Adhere them in place.

Inside Sentiment Panel
1) Place the template on the upper left corner of the cream panel with the 2 ¾” side at the top of the panel and draw a light pencil line, and then cut off the corner.
2) Stamp a sentiment on the cream panel and adhere in place.

Finishing Touches
1) Glue the butterflies in place, making sure that they are within the bounds of the edges of the card so it will fit in an envelope.

2) On the card front, I added a Happy Birthday label with a little bow, but you can use whatever elements you want.

Now it's your turn.  Have fun!
Blessings, Annie

Happy Easter Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Here we are getting close to the end of March with Easter only a few weeks away.  I've been busy making little Easter treat cups for my bible study group, along with Easter cards.  Here is one of the designs, using the Darice Cross with Script Embossing Folder.

I used the Crop-A-Dile Stub punch on the corners of the two layers.  Small details such as this can add so much to created a finished touch.  To make the lovely Scripted Cross embossment stand out, I lightly rubbed the raised words with Speckled Egg Distress Ink using a Picket Fence blending brush.

To add some color to the inside of the card, I glued three little flowers to the bottom left of the card.  And then I just had to stamp risen.  Jesus is risen, indeed!

Springtime Shadow Box

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Hello to you and Hello Spring!  I'm seeing all kinds of little green shoots coming up in my flower beds since the weather has warmed up so much.  That and the beautiful sunshine is making my thoughts turn to making cards with flowers.  The fun fold that I'm sharing with you today is one I saw on Dawn's Stamping Thoughts, where you can find great tutorials.  This card is called a Shadow Box Frame card.  The flower layers are mounted to give dimension to the card front.

Here you see the open card.  Don't you just love the little blue bird perched on the basket!  For this type of card, it is best to use a heavy card stock with designs on both sides.  I used Copic Markers to color the image.

This view shows how much the frame stands out from the card.  Another plus is that the opened card stands up really well.  This style doesn't topple over very easily.

Dahlia Birthday Wishes

Annie’s Ink-Lings

We have a friend who is wild about Dahlias.  He spends hours upon hours doing all that is necessary to keep them in beautiful bloom for the whole season.  And then he faithfully digs up the bulbs in the fall, divides, sorts, labels, and packages them for the next spring.  Frankly, I have never seen such a variety of Dahlias in any one person's yard.  Believe me, it's exquisite!  With that in mind, I decided to make a Dahlia themed birthday card for him.  Although I'm sure he would be pleased with any color of Dahlia, I decided to go with a more neutral, masculine look for the card.  Take a look.

For background, I added a black panel.  On top of that I added a panel cut from Graphic 45 Good 'ol Sports collection. I thought a border would look nice around the flower, so I fussy cut the Dahlia and then traced it onto a piece of card stock, cut it out, and then mounted the Dahlia onto it.  I like the added dimension.  I also mounted the striped panel for added character.

For continuity, I carried over to the inside of the card a striped panel and the die cut that matches the front of the card.  I can hardly wait to send it to him!

Stampin' Up Stampin' Blends:  Light and Dark Petal Pink, Light and Dark Daffodil Delight

By the Sea Accordion Album

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Lately, I've had so much fun using the beautiful Graphic 45 papers that I decided to use them again to do just one more project for now.  Once again I chose the By the Sea paper pad for creating another accordion fold album.  This will be a fun display for our TV/sun room from which we can view the pool.  It will help me pretend that I'm seaside. 😉 Here's a picture of the album fully open.

One of the things that I like about Graphic 45 is that there are always so many images to cut out and use for embellishments.  Here I have fussy cut the postage stamps, the little girl in the bottom left corner, and the sea shells in the bottom right corner.  I used 3D tape to give the panel some dimension.

Another thing I like is that there are so many coordinating sheets of paper so that you have all sorts of layering options.
On the panel below I used 3 different patterns for layering and then again did some fussy cuting.  The By the Sea strip is 3D and also the postage stamps.

Here on this next panel you can see that I used two paper patterns.  I fussy cut the little red sea horse, the sea shell, and the sea shell strip and mounted them with 3D tape.

You can find the measurements on the G45 PDF by clicking here
I hope you have enjoyed viewing today's post.

Blessings,
Annie
