Today's card was made to enter a Color Challenge at the Paper Players.  This certainly was a challenge for me because it is a combination of colors, yellow, blue, purple, and a neutral, that I normally wouldn't use together.  So I was pleasantly surprised by the finished design and I plan to use this color combination again.  I love taking a challenge and trying something new.

I embossed the blue panel with the Stampin' Up Elegant Dots embossing folder.  Both the blue panel and the purple panel have the corners rounded.  The flowers were made with three sizes of flower punches.  To make the large petals stand out, I sponged a bit of lavender pigment ink on them.  For the flower centers, I used a hole punch on yellow card stock, and topped it with a yellow pearl.  The result was a little border around the pearl, which makes the pearl stand out more.

Quick & Easy #1 Autumn Flowers

After spending weeks making specialty Christmas cards, it was nice to just make a card that was quick and easy. The size is A2.  I used my Stampin' Up Country Home stamp set.  Three sizes of punches were used to make the focal point - 2" starburst, 2 1/4" round, and 2 1/2" scallop. 

To add a little pizazz to the card, I glued a fabric flower onto the stamped image and put a dot of Apple Green Nuvo Crystal Drops in the center of it.

A little twine bow was added to the top white starburst punched piece.

And three acrylic crystals to the bottom one.  The image was colored with Copic Markers and Stampin' Up Stampin' Blends.  The sentiment is from Stampin' Up Wetlands stamp set.

Z-Fold Card In the Pink with Scallops

Hello again,

 Today I’m sharing another card from my Tuesday card class.  I chose the colors of pink and green because there is so much of those colors in my flower gardens, along with butterflies flitting here and there.  This Z-Fold is a bit different from the regular Z-Fold card as the card base Z is scored at one set of measurements and the scallop border is scored at a different set of measurements, thereby making Z’s on both sides of the card.  I really like the effect it gives.

Pink Card Base 4-1/4 x 11 inches; scored at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches
Green Panels: two at 2-1/2 x 4 inches and one at 4 x 5-1/4 inches

1. Score card base at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches.
2. Adhere the green panels and the designer paper to the card base.
3. Stamp or write a sentiment on the white sentiment panel and adhere to 

           back of card.
4. Punch the ¾ x 11 inch white strip with the scallop border punch.
5. Use score tape to adhere pink strip to white scalloped border.
6. Score the border strip at 5-1/2 inches and 8-1/4 inches.
7. Glue sentiment strip to back of scalloped border with the right end 

           just short of the 5-1/2 score line.
8. With card lying flat, align the border with the scallops meeting the tops 

        of the green panels.
9. Attach across the front card panel, and then from the 8-1/4 inch score 

            line to the end.
10. For front of card, stamp sentiment on the small white CS, layer onto green

            CS, and adhere to 3rd Z panel. 

11. Curl wings of butterflies, then glue 3 butterflies to front of card and one 

            at the top right of the sentiment panel.
12. Adhere one jewel on each butterfly.

Cylinder Pop-Up Card

My, oh, my, have I got a fun card for you!  Besides being a style that is a first-time-ever for me, it is really an adorable owl card.  Who-who doesn’t like owls!  I saw a picture on Pinterest, but was very disappointed when I found there were no directions included in the posted link.  It took me forever to figure out how to make it.  Fortunately, with a little help from a video on YouTube, in centimeters and a much bigger card, I finally was able to draw a diagram, determine my measurements, and fit it all together.  Whew – what a challenge!  One of the things that is really fun about this card is the cylinder mechanism. The mechanism pattern is included in this post.  Hopefully, you will find it easy to make even though it takes a bit of time.  See what you think.

The blue leaf is embossed.  It makes a nice contrast to the plaid leaf.  The metal spiral paperclip really shows up on the ribbon.  I used a glue dot to hold the paperclip in place.

This is the pattern for the mechanism that makes the tree trunk pop up.  When you fold back on the score lines, the long pull strip crosses over the back side and will fit in the cutout on the left side of the trunk.

A Few Notes

Fold mechanism on score lines.  With the folds in place, ink edges of panel with Gathered Twigs to cover up the white edges.  Cover the front of the mechanism panel with DS tape on all edges and several rows in between.  Adhere the brown embossed panel onto the white mechanism panel.

Once the white mechanism panel and the tree trunk panel are adhered together, die cut a 1-1/4” circle about ¼” above the pull tab.  Roll/curve the panel to soften it and make it popup more easily when the card is opened.

Use Foam Tape to adhere the sentiment panel on the inside of the card.

Z-Fold Card - Feminine and Masculine

How would you like to make a card that is simple, pretty and elegant, and one that is simple and fun?  Then these cards are for you.  Wanting to send cards of encouragement to friends during this time of "physical distancing," I began browsing in Pinterest for something to give me inspiration.  I really like "Z" cards because they are a very simple fold and can be easily dressed up to make as fancy as you like or something to make you smile.  Take a look.

I love how the doily looks tucked behind the daisy.  It was stamped and then I fussy cut it.

This is the same style card except done in soft blue and green.  For the embellishment on the flag, I just cut out some flowers from the designer paper.  Also put some on the inside of the card.

Smiling and giggling while making this card, I was so happy with the way it turned out.  Such a cute little guy (girl?).  Just hanging out and watching the day go by.  Hoping it brings laughter or at least a smile to a friend.

Daisy Mini-Card

Here it is with September almost half gone and my daisies are still blooming their little hearts out.  It’s like a touch of spring still lingering in the flower beds.  Looking at them this morning inspired me to make one more card with a slightly springy touch.  Quick, simple, and cheerful!  Someone's going to get this for their birthday.

Directions

Stamp two Daisies on the cream card stock using Carved Pumpkin. Lightly color the Daisies with a Fantastix Coloring Brush using the Dried Marigold, or you can use a sponge.  Punch them out using the daisy punch.  Slightly mold the petals of both daisies.  Use mounting tape to adhere them together.  Glue the assembled daisy to the card, centering on the card.  Punch 2 leaf sprigs from the green card stock, mold them a bit, and glue under the daisy.  Also with the green card stock, punch a ½ circle and glue it to the center of the daisies.  Add a jewel in the center green circle for the finishing touch for the front of the card.

For the inside of the card, attach one of the 3 ¾ x 3 ¾ inch DP squares.  Stamp the sentiment on the white square and then adhere it to the DP square.

I've just had a delightful time making the card that is all the rage right now.  Yes, the Impossible Card!  It turns out that it is not so impossible after all, and actually is very easy and quick to make.  To make it even more easy for you, I've included a template with all the measurements.  Just your regular supplies and tools are needed with one exception.  I used the Stampin' Up bow maker punch, which makes the cutest bow ever.  Here are two examples to show you.

The Impossible Card

Hello everyone,

Have you tried the Impossible Card yet?  This new fold really caught my eye and right away I wanted to give it go.  Thanks to Dawn, from Dawn's Stamping Thoughts video on YouTube I found it very easy to do.  An additional bonus that Dawn provided was instructions to make templates for this card, which will save you lots of time that would be spent in scoring and measuring.  You will be able to just lay your template on the correct size of card stock and cut it out.

The card base is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", which makes it possible to get four card bases from one sheet of  8 1/2" x 11" card stock.

Camouflage Background Technique

This is a really fun and easy technique that only takes a couple of minutes.  It creates a quick background for a variety of images or die cuts.  I've been wanting to use my deer head punch and this cute little sentiment that perfectly goes with it, so this is what I came up with.

Here are the card measurements, supplies, technique directions:

CAMOUFLAGE BACKGROUND WITH DEER HEAD CARD

DIRECTIONS FOR CAMOUFLAGE BACKGROUND

1.         Crumple a solid piece of background paper into a ball. Straighten out the paper so it’s mostly flat again, and then crumple it a second time. This will produce a finer texture on the paper.

2.         Flatten the paper, then lightly drag the Dune Pigment ink across the surface of the paper. Don’t press down with the pad—just lightly drag it over the surface of the paper.

3.         Crumple paper again, flatten it, and drag the Crushed Olive ink pad across the surface.

4.         Crumple and flatten again then drag the Walnut Stain ink pad across the surface.

5.         If you want more color, lightly tap with the ink pads until you’re satisfied with the amount of color.

Give it try and see how much fun it is to watch the background come alive.

Today I'm featuring the Stampin' Up Scalloped Tag Punch.  I wasn't really interested in purchasing this punch until I saw pictures of cards using this punch posted on Pinterest.   Well, I saw some great cards and now I own one of these punches.  So thank you to whomever the SU person is who came up with idea of using the punch in this way.  I love it!  It's really very easy and quick to make, so I hope you'll give it try.  Here's the card I made using this punch.  Directions are after the picture.

Scalloped Punch Topper Card

1.  One CS 5 ½ x 8” – Green

2.  One CS panel 2 ¼ x 5 ⅛” – Blue

The Last Summer Flowers

Good morning paper crafters,

Summer is sliding into fall and we are having a beautiful Indian Summer here in Wenatchee.  Before I turn my card making toward the next season, here are a couple of flower cards to say goodbye to summer.  This color combination has been around for a long time, but I just never get tired of it.  Isn't it amazing that brown can be so bright and cheerful!

 

This card is a top fold.

 

And this one is a side fold.



 

The flowers were made with punches from Stampin' Up:  Blossom, Pansy, Petite Petals, and the Blossom Petals Builder was used for the leaves.  The final touch was to add some jewels to make the flower centers pop.  The ribbon and the paper is also from Stampin' Up.

Sending a Hug in Blue, Green, & Purple


 
After spending a "pleasant" morning with my dental hygienist, it seemed a good idea to relax in front of my computer and do another post to the blog.  Actually, it's always pleasant to visit Lona.  She's a delightful woman and I love her entertaining chit chat.  I believe she even understands my guttural responses. 

So here is what I have for you today.  I saw a card very similar to this one made by Michelle Woerner.  The cheerful and bright colors captivated me and I knew I just had to make one.  There were only a few card details, so I decided to write up some directions for future reference and now I'll share those with you so you can make the card, too.

 Directions
1.  Top fold an 11” x 5 ½” piece of card stock.

2.    Cut a 2”x6” strip of patterned paper.  Attach at an angle.  Trim sides.

3.    On the die cut label, use a dots stencil to sponge ink on it, starting in the upper left   corner, gradually fading the color as you move down.

4.    Stamp sentiment on the right side of the label about 1/3 of the way down from the top.

5.    Edge the label with a Wink of Stella clear glimmer brush.

6.    Lay label aside to dry.

7.    Curl ends of petals, then layer the lighter shade flower onto the darker shade flower.

8.    Next, layer the two smaller flowers onto the large flower, brush smallest flower with Wink of Stella clear glimmer brush, and finish off with a pearl in the center.

9.    Using a 10” piece of ribbon, tie a small bow.

10.Using a 15” piece of twine, tie a large bow.

     Final Assembly

1.    Attach the label slightly off center towards the right and glue the ribbon bow on the right side of the label.

2.     On the left side of the label, glue the twine bow in place with the flower on top.

3.     Glue on the leaves and the flourish.
