Quilted Tulips Card

I grew up with quilts in my life - on my bed, certain quilts set aside for outside use for picnics or going to the park, small quilts to wrap up in while watching TV on a winter evening.  That's probably giving away my age, isn't it? 😉 I still have a couple of quilts that I made in my younger days, quilts from my Mom, and quilts I inherited from my Grandmother that hold so many memories.  I'm guessing that that is the reason why I liked the designer paper so much, which I'm using for today's card.

I used the Stampin' Up Square Lattice Embossing Folder on the designer paper to give it some texture.  It made it look  almost like real quilting.  

 The designer paper was layered onto a white panel, then adhered to a pink panel that I had embossed with Stampin' Up Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.

To further carry the theme of tulips, I die cut a stem of tulips using the Memory Box Dancing Tulips die.  I first die cut it in green, then just die cut the tulip blossoms in pink and glued them onto the the green stem.

In my stash of ribbon, I found a pretty pink and green combination.  It was just the perfect embellishment and helped give balance to the card in relation to the sentiment in the lower right hand corner.

If you don't have quilted designer paper, you can always make your own by choosing four to five papers with small designs and coordinating colors

. 

Cut 1 1/2 inch squares from each of them.  You will need three squares across and two high.  Then adhere them to a white cardstock panel.  To make the panel fit inside the embossed tulip border, the measurements I used was 4 7/16 inches x 2 15/16 inches. Arrange the blocks to make your own beautiful quilt design!  Hope you give it a try and have lots of fun with it.

Happy Easter Card

Here we are getting close to the end of March with Easter only a few weeks away.  I've been busy making little Easter treat cups for my bible study group, along with Easter cards.  Here is one of the designs, using the Darice Cross with Script Embossing Folder.

I used the Crop-A-Dile Stub punch on the corners of the two layers.  Small details such as this can add so much to created a finished touch.  To make the lovely Scripted Cross embossment stand out, I lightly rubbed the raised words with Speckled Egg Distress Ink using a Picket Fence blending brush.

To add some color to the inside of the card, I glued three little flowers to the bottom left of the card.  And then I just had to stamp risen.  Jesus is risen, indeed!

Make Your Own Background

Here's a card I made for the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge Blog, MAKE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND.  Actually, I ended up making two backgrounds and it was so fun - first background on the card base and a second background on the layered panel.

First, I stamped the Retro Sparkle background stamp on the card base.  Then I punched little yellow sparkles and 3 red stars and randomly pasted them onto the card base.

The second background was made by inking the embossing folder with red, yellow, and stucco ink and then embossing onto a white panel, layered onto a red panel.  The "You're a Star" sentiment is a die from Simon Says.  I finished off the card by layering three sizes of yellow and red stars and gluing to the lower left of the embossed panel.  Just a fun and cheerful little card.

Beautiful Autumn and a Heart of Red

A card on Pinterest inspired me to make this card.  I love the pairing of fall leaves with a big red heart.  I used Stampin' Up Be Mine Stitched Framelits.  And of course, the sentiment is perfect for the design, which is from Stampin' Up Beautiful Autumn stamp set.  The leaves were made with the punches that were bundled with the stamp set.

The Stampin' Up Ornate Floral embossing folder provides a soft, delicate background, and really makes the red heart pop.  I'm hoping to make this card with a Thanksgiving message inside for some of my Thanksgiving cards.  I hope you will give it a try.  It's really fast to make, but still has a touch of elegance to it.

Today's card features a new 3D embossing folder from Stampin' Up called Evergreen Forest.  It makes a really beautiful background for any number of card types.  A card that I saw on Pinterest inspired the making of my card.  I used the "Warmest Wishes" die that will allow this card to be a birthday card, thinking of you, winter hello - a very versatile sentiment and card design.

I two-toned both the pine needles and the pine cones to give them dimension.  For a nice final touch, I used Nuvo Crystal Drops on the dots around the images.

Pink Vellum Wreath Card

Hello stampers,

Do you like cards that are feminine, elegant, and easy?  Then, here’s a card I think you’ll like.  It was cased from one I saw either on FB or Pinterest.  I forgot to write down the maker's name.  I’ve made this card in pink, one of my favorite colors, but I think it would look very pretty in lavender or yellow.  What do think?

I love the vellum background which I embossed with the Stampin' Up Country Floral 3d embossing folder.

  

To adhere the vellum panel to the card base, I used Scrapbook Adhesives E-Z Runner Permanent Fine Adhesive.  This tape is absolutely perfect to us with vellum as it does not show through the vellum.  I highly recommend it.

Here are some directions for making the card: 

1. Pink card base 8-1/2 x 5-1/2
2. Vellum panel 5-3/8 x 4-1/8 inches
3. Emboss medium weight vellum panel with Stampin’ Up Country Floral
    Embossing folder.
4. Die cut one wreath using Cottage Cutz Build-a-Grapevine-Wreath.
5. Glue the wreath to the vellum panel.
6. On the back of the vellum panel, place 4 small strips of Vellum Tape
    behind the wreath.
7. On white card stock, die cut one each:
            Savvy Dies Tall Branches with Leaves #10108 and
            Savvy Dies Wishing Flower #10090.
8. Sponge the leaves with Distress Ink Lucky Clover.
9. Sponge the flower with Distress Ink Worn Lipstick.
10. Glue them to the left side of the wreath.
11. Tie a twine bow with a 10-inch piece of twine and attach on stems.
12. Stamp “Friends” sentiment on pink card stock and punch out with

    Stampin’ Up small oval punch.
13. Glue the sentiment label to the lower right side of the wreath.
14. Add a drop of Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss - Bubblegum Blush to the

    center of the flower.

Z-Fold Card - Feminine and Masculine

How would you like to make a card that is simple, pretty and elegant, and one that is simple and fun?  Then these cards are for you.  Wanting to send cards of encouragement to friends during this time of "physical distancing," I began browsing in Pinterest for something to give me inspiration.  I really like "Z" cards because they are a very simple fold and can be easily dressed up to make as fancy as you like or something to make you smile.  Take a look.

I love how the doily looks tucked behind the daisy.  It was stamped and then I fussy cut it.

This is the same style card except done in soft blue and green.  For the embellishment on the flag, I just cut out some flowers from the designer paper.  Also put some on the inside of the card.

Smiling and giggling while making this card, I was so happy with the way it turned out.  Such a cute little guy (girl?).  Just hanging out and watching the day go by.  Hoping it brings laughter or at least a smile to a friend.

Nativity Ornament Card

Hello again,

Last Saturday I finished up my cards, got them all signed, addressed, stamped, and dropped into the mail box. What a good feeling!  This is the last card I made.  I love to always make at least a few focusing on the nativity.  The die I used for this card is one that I purchased during the summer and have been saving for December.  It is called "Ornament, Nativity" by Cottage Cutz.  

The navy blue base is the normal size, 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.  The white panel is 4 x 5 1/4 inches embossed with "Boughs and Berries" embossing folder from Stampin' Up.  The sentiment stamp is an old one but one of my favorites.  It is called "The Nativity Cast" by Stampendous.  A tiny little gold jewel is glued in the center of the star.  That single bit of gold really focuses one's attention to the star shining over baby Jesus.

Birthday Wreath Card

My hubby and I got a good laugh when I showed him today’s card.  He said, “That’s a pretty Christmas card!”  I said to him,  ‘What – can’t you see it says happy birthday?  Yeah, he causes me to laugh a lot. Well, his comment got me to thinking that maybe it does look kind of Christmassy.  Potential problem solved!!  I have a friend whose birthday is in December, so . . . .  You guessed it; this card will be going to her in December.

 I used the Lace Dynamic embossing folder from Stampin’ Up for the background layer.  I used the Seasonal Wreath embossing folder (also from Stampin’ Up) on green card stock and then fussy cut the wreath.  The corners of all layers plus the card base were rounded before taping them together.  I used a little flower punch on three or four shades of purple to add flowers to the wreath.  The larger daisy flower was also made with a punch, using three shades of purple to coordinate with the little flowers.   I finished off the flower by placing a decorative jewel in the center.  I tied two bows; one of twine and one of narrow organdy ribbon, and glued them in place just under the top of the flower.  For the final touch, I made a small flag, stamped happy birthday on it, and glued it place just to the right of the flower.

Now I’m thinking, maybe I’ll use this design for a couple of Christmas cards – using red, of course!  Hope you enjoyed today’s card.

Masculine Leafy Birthday Greeting

Need a masculine card?  Here's a design that you can use for all occasions just by changing the sentiment.  I took the challenge from Lisa's Stamp Studio of her Sketch #9.  I used three shades of coordinating green card stock on a cream card base.  I also used cream card stock for the sentiment.  I love the look of using two different embossing folders for the four panels.  You won't believe how fast you can make this card.

All in White Wedding Card

Hi there, Card Makers,

I was recently asked to make a wedding card for a friend whose daughter is getting married.  Since I've only made a few wedding cards, I really had to put on my creative thinking cap to design a special card.  This is why card making is so addictive for me - I just love the creative process.  Here is the result.

I used bright white for the card base and Star Dream shimmery paper for the embossed layer which is just a bit off-white.  The sentiment on the front and inside were created with my computer and then printed on white card stock, and cut to size.

In an all-white card, it's kind of hard to see the dimensional aspect of the card.  To give a 3D effect, I glued two wing die cuts together before gluing onto the birds.  The bottom bird is glued to the card, but I used mounting tape to add the top bird.  Then finished it off by adding pearls for the eyes.  I'm pleased with the result and just hope my friend is too.

Smile, You're On Camera!

Happy Tuesday!

It's a beautiful day again and I plan to be out there as soon as I finish this post.  But first I want to share with you a card I made for a friend of mine who is a "shutterbug" and volunteers taking pictures of our church activities.  He's really a camera expert, so I thought it appropriate and had fun using this little camera stamp on a slide mount frame.  It's such a cute old-fashioned camera.  My friend should really get a kick out it.

The camera embossing folder made a perfect background.

I've had this sentiment stamp in my stash for a long time just waiting for the right opportunity.  I like it so much that I'm going to have to find more ways to use it.

Baptism Congratulations!

Hello on this beautiful sun shiny morning!

No wind so far and no rain.  It is such a treat after having rainy, windy weather for a week or so.

My project this morning is the result of a request from a friend for a baptism card.  I find it amusing that sometimes it takes me a couple of hours to decide on card stock, sentiments, dies, etc., and only about a half hour to make the card.  Finally, however, it all came together and I think my friend will like the result.  Hopefully, it will inspire some creative ideas for you.

The Meaning of the Cross

Hello friends,

This coming Sunday is Easter, the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.  The cross says that God especially loves those who are hurting  -- those who are under the penalty and power of sin. If you will turn to Jesus Christ and put your trust in what He did for you in taking your just penalty for sin on the cross, He will deliver you from sin’s penalty and from its power.  He wants to be your Shepherd and Overseer.  He loves you just as you are, but He loves you too much to leave you that way. He wants to heal you from the devastating effects of sin.  How thankful I am for this precious gift!

The card I'm sharing with you today is called, in stampers' language, "clean and simple."  This is the kind of life that Jesus lived.  This is the kind of life that Jesus has inspired me to live.  

My prayer for you is that during this Easter season, the Holy Spirit will move your heart to commit all to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Love Him, commit to Him, serve Him; it is the "clean and simple way."

May you receive all the blessings of Easter.

Hello Card Makers,

Making sympathy cards may be difficult for some - death, sadness, tears, grief, etc.  But for those who believe in an afterlife, it is also a celebration of joy for a loved one because life goes on in heaven for that person.  Then, too, I find joy in making a special card to comfort a grieving family.  This week I found myself needing three sympathy cards, as friends in three different families had passed on.  I was pleased to find that I had two cards on hand and then set about to create the third card.  So, here's what I designed, simple but with a bit of elegance.

I  die cut a light blue piece of card stock  using the Spellbinders Nestabilities Decorative Elements die, then used the Sizzix Birds of a Feather embossing folder, added the sentiment, and finished by embellishing with pearls.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Baptism Card

Hi fellow paper crafters,

There was a joyious occasion at church last Sunday.  A friend became a follower of Jesus and was baptized, and became a member of our church family.  I just have to say - Praise the Lord!  Today I'm sharing with you the card I made for her.  I'm so very happy for her decision!!!
