Z-Fold Card - Feminine and Masculine

Annie’s Ink-Lings

How would you like to make a card that is simple, pretty and elegant, and one that is simple and fun?  Then these cards are for you.  Wanting to send cards of encouragement to friends during this time of "physical distancing," I began browsing in Pinterest for something to give me inspiration.  I really like "Z" cards because they are a very simple fold and can be easily dressed up to make as fancy as you like or something to make you smile.  Take a look.

I love how the doily looks tucked behind the daisy.  It was stamped and then I fussy cut it.

Notice the daisy on the inside.

This is the same style card except done in soft blue and green.  For the embellishment on the flag, I just cut out some flowers from the designer paper.  Also put some on the inside of the card.

Smiling and giggling while making this card, I was so happy with the way it turned out.  Such a cute little guy (girl?).  Just hanging out and watching the day go by.  Hoping it brings laughter or at least a smile to a friend.

Christian Book Review - Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World, by David Jeremiah

Annie’s Ink-Lings

“Sure, we realized the good times couldn’t last forever.  Everybody knows that economies move through seasons and cycles, just like everything else.  What goes up must come down – just basic common sense, right?  Still, those realizations didn’t quite prepare us for the reality.  It was as if the United States of America went to the doctor’s office for its annual checkup.  The nurse said, ‘This will hurt just a little bit,’ then picked up a mallet and smashed us a good one on the head!”

This is part of the introduction to Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World, by David Jeremiah.  While this book is mainly about the aftermath of the economic crisis of 2008, it is still pertinent to the present chaotic, disastrous, and fearful time.   Confidence can be hard to come by these days. People are losing their jobs, their houses, and their life savings at an unprecedented rate. Violence, natural disasters, and moral depravity seem to be skyrocketing.
In the midst of all this chaos, we need to know...what on earth should we do now? You will find hope and confidence from the priceless counsel of the Word of God as he answers our most urgent questions, including:  How can we weather this storm with a calm heart?  •What does it truly mean to “wait on the Lord?”  What is Jesus saying to our chaotic world today?

Highly recommended.  Pick up a copy to read soon.

Blessing,
Annie

Bible Illustrating and Journaling - Joshua 1:1-5

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Joshua 1:9

After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:  ‘Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.  Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.  From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.  No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.

Have you ever wondered why God gave the Hebrews the Promised Land?  Originally it was given to Abraham, but over the years was taken over by the Amorites, Jebusites, Hittites, Hivites, Canaanites, and Perizzites.  The Lord worked among those people for four hundred years but they rejected Him and never accepted Him as their God.  Instead, they worshiped the false god Moloch by offering their babies as sacrifices to him and practiced indescribably aberrant sexual lifestyles.  God waited four hundred years for them to repent and turn from their wicked ways.  Finally, God was done waiting on them.  God first called Moses to lead the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.  Moses appointed Joshua to take over for him as he was dying.  When Joshua, leading the children of Israel, arrived at the Jordan River at the place to cross over to the Promised Land, this is the commission that God gave to him:
“After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:  ‘Moses My servant is dead. I will not leave you nor forsake you.’”  Joshua 1:1-5 NKJV

Isn’t that just the most wonderful story!  I love reading and studying biblical history.

Blessings,
Annie

Card-Top Diagonal Fold Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

What I have for you today is a really delightful card.  I first made this style of card over 20 years ago.  When I came across it while browsing through my saved cards, I just knew I had to share it with you.  The original card was made in shades of lavender and purple.  Wanting to do something different, this time I chose shades of green.  While there are quite a few panels to cut, once cut it really doesn't take that long to put it together.  The hardest part was trying to simplify the directions for you.  If you have questions, be sure to contact me.  The directions turned out to be a bit lengthy, but I wanted to make them as clear as possible.  So, take a look and see what you think.

Theater Fold Card

Annie’s Ink-Lings

I was really excited when I discovered a new fancy fold, which was created by a French card maker, Lolascrap & Compagnie.  It is called a Theater Fold Card.  Alas, her tutorial listed the measurements in centimeters.  I am almost hopeless when it comes to converting centimeters to inches.  So, you can imagine how happy I was when I finally found a tutorial with measurements in inches.  Okay!  Now to get on with making a card.

I must confess that it took a bit for me to figure out how to fit all the pieces together.  I watched several videos before I finally had a breakthrough.  And then I told myself, well it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. Right!

The first picture shows the card closed and the second picture is the card open.  Each side pulls out like the opening of stage curtains.

As you can see in the open window, there is a slider strip with a sentiment panel attached.

The third picture is a view looking down onto the inter mechanisms of the card.

The fourth picture is a side view which shows the bracket that the “curtain” slides through.  You can also see how the slider strip sentiment is held in place.

Here are links to three really good video tutorials.  I couldn't have made this card without the help of their videos.  Many thanks to Nancy, Sara, and Tiffany.

When watching the videos, pay close attention to how the slider strip is made and inserted.  Also notice that the brackets are glued to the back of the front frame panel.

Christian Book Review - A Thorn in My Heart by Liz Curtis Higgs

Annie’s Ink-Lings

Thorn in My Heart is a beautifully written, touching book by Liz Curtis Higgs, who does a masterful job of taking the beautiful story of Leah, Rachel, and Jacob from the pages of Genesis, setting it in a different era.

The story unfolds in 1788 Scotland, where twin brothers, Evan and Jamie McKie vie for a father's blessing. When the elder McKie gives the blessing to the wrong brother, chaos and murderous threats ensue. Driven away from the prosperous estate of Glentrool by his jealous brother, Jamie flees to his uncle Lachlan's property of Auchengray with the blessing of his mother, Rowena.  Once there, he hides his true intentions of seeking a bride among his cousins Leana and Rose, and agrees to work for a month for his uncle Lachlan while he decides which cousin to marry.

Somehow, everything goes wrong. From his wedding, to which woman he truly chose for his wife.  Plagued by the deceit of the past and the lies of the present, hidden secrets and two sisters that vie for his heart, Jamie is torn between what is right - and what truly belongs to him.

From the beginning of this book until the last page, your imagination and your heart will be captured. The very human struggles each character faces will engage your emotions. The harshness of a father. The love of two sisters. And the undeserved redemption and forgiveness offered to one man who neither wants nor deserves it. It is a thrilling peek into the lives of a family that is very much like our own, who face the same challenges we do, and are as human as we are.  A very engaging  Christian book.

To read the real biblical story in the bible, go to Genesis 25:19 through 29:29.

Blessings,
Annies
